Fly trap with a lot of flies in it

That's A LOT of flies.

I've only found these at tractor supply. The flies go in and can't get out. They drown. Seems non glicky.  You add the powder (which smells like rotten eggs) to water and pour it in. Add water as needed. As flies die, they become the attractant for more flies.

It's amazing the difference this has made. My cows had thousands of flies on them. This seemed to put them in check.

I've never seen such an effective fly trap. What is it called? Or link to a product or something?

My suspicion is that the powder is blood and bone.

I may have read the label and the main ingrediant was eggs. I have an unused one. I'll take a look

I had to take it down and close the cap. Too many in there.

I capped off 3, put 2 new ones out. I can rotate them now. I'm seeing less flies on my cows. It's working.

I've seen similar traps to these before and everytime it gets me thinking that I should figure out a way to keep most of the flys seperate from the attractant so they can be fed to dish or chickens.

I thought about that also. Anything that attracts flies can be put in it. I confirmed the main ingredient is eggs. Problem is the smell from dead flies. I got dry heaves when I emptied it. The smell of death x5. Emptying sooner would resolve this issue.

When I emptied it I left a little dead fly juice in the jar and added water. Today, I saw 2 buzzards flying low. I walked over and it was obvious why they were there.

That's kind of the problem. Not very practical to use flys as feed if it is disgusting to harvest them every time. Do the flys stink because they get wet and start to rot?

I came across a really disgusting video of a fly trap on YouTube and was trying to think of a way to lure the flys in but have them get stuck in a second container or area that would be dry so they would just dry out. Don't know if this would work or not.

Was sort of thinking a screen or something so the flys would smell the liquid but not come in contact with it. Although I don't know if the humidity from the liquid would condensate and cause them to rot anyway.

Yes. If cleaned daily they wouldn't smell. Because there are live flies, I shut the lid and wait till they are dead (probably too long) before dumping them.

I'm reminded of best grasshopper trap I use to have. An above ground swimming pool. I emptied the skimmer daily and my chickens got a treat of a dozen grasshoppers that were in there.
