I know that grapes originally grew up trees. I am trying to get as much stuff going as I can on my small bit of dirt. I have been told that lowbush blueberries do well under pines and I have planted some under one set of pines I have. I have another set of pines and I would really like to have grapes or maybe even kiwifruit.

Thanks

I planted a kiwi under some pines last year and it died but we had a very hot and dry year. In addition the soil is very alkaline in my area but I'll try again this year.

I did plant some grapes this spring near the pines at the base of some Hawthorn trees. I figure the spikes will deter at least the climbing raiders if not the flying ones.

I also planted some apple trees from seed at the base of some 10 ft Scots pines (using the pine tree as a support for the wire cage and tree tube) and they seem to be doing very well.

Under pines not  very well they need lots of lots of sunlight for a good crop . You could grow them a couple of yards away and have them growing up and over the pines no problem although how you would harvest them .......
you could do the same with male kiwi and grow the females near bye
