I planted a kiwi under some pines last year and it died but we had a very hot and dry year. In addition the soil is very alkaline in my area but I'll try again this year.
I did plant some grapes this spring near the pines at the base of some Hawthorn trees. I figure the spikes will deter at least the climbing raiders if not the flying ones.
I also planted some
apple trees from seed at the base of some 10 ft Scots pines (using the pine tree as a support for the wire cage and tree tube) and they seem to be doing very well.
