Rabbit Tractor design

I am planning to start colony raising rabbits in arks, giving them a minimum of 20 sq. feet per rabbit. I am looking for ideas although I think I will go with this design.

Can I use the same 1" square wire on the bottom as on the top or will it crush the grass and hurt their feet even if it is flush with the ground? I am using wire on the bottom as a lot of our land is uneven and I think we might have weasels or maybe Mink as one of our Jersey Giant chickens was taken by one!

I have bred rabbits before, and typically 1 inch is too wide for their feet, though as long as the wiring is not too far off of the grass they'll be fine. The one thing you must consider is if they will be able to set their other feet on the ground, and if the area is too hilly for that, you might want to get smaller wiring. Also, consider what breed of rabbit, and how big their feet will grow!
I am very glad you are putting proper fencing on the bottom of the area, as many people forget that rabbits are natural burrowers and end up with an empty run! :O In my experience, 1/2 inch square wiring is the best! I have had pet bunnies whose hutch floor was about two feet off the ground, and that size worked to kept their feet healthy!

I prefer 1/2 wire for the bottom but if you are going to rest it directly on the ground I don't see 1 inch being to tough on an adult rabbit.   The little kits might be another issue altogether.  They start off pretty small and could get their feet or head stuck in a one inch square, especially as you are moving the cage or when it wobbles on uneven ground.
