Hi everyone,

I am from British Columbia and have been interested in constructing an earth mass off-grid dwelling for several years now. Being quite young I have never been able to get the resources together for such a project; however, that may all be changing in the next 2 months!

I applied for a grant with pepsi to get $25 000 towards building a community centre/studio to serve as an education facility for off-grid living and as well as offer a learning opportunity for volunteers to learn how to construct off-grid dwellings.

If the idea gets enough votes we will have the funding to start building this summer and we will be looking for as much participation as possible. As the building will be a gift to the community it will continue to grow and offer the opportunity to everyone that wants to learn about off-grid living or just spend some time seeing what life in an earthship is really like.

A couple of land owners have expressed interest in donating land to the cause, but we are still actively seeking potential land contributors (must be Canadian).

Please note I have used "earthship" because it is the most notable term for earth mass dwellings and any support/discussion would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a link if you would like to lend your support, you can vote daily and if you would like to get on the organization committee please do not hesitate to send me a message or post your ideas! We have 2 months and this idea is meant to involve EVERYONE. Thanks guys!

Good work. I hope you get it!

I voted for you and 'liked' it on facebook.

Have you heard of Earthen Hand?

Let me know if you need some help,

That grant with Pepsi was in 2011 so I doubt that is still available though it would be great to get $25,000 to go towards building a community centre/studio to serve as an education facility for off-grid living and as well as offer a learning opportunity for volunteers to learn how to construct off-grid dwellings.

In today's market, I am not sure how far $25,000 would go.  It cost $30,000 just to cover the interior of my house.

It would be great to find out if someone donated some land and if this project got finalized.

I have made this recommendation before, and it’s worth making again here: if Earthships have captured your imagination then also check out the book “Hacking the Earthship”, which critiques the Earthship but brings its concepts back down to, uh, earth, and offers ideas for better ways to apply them.

They worship nothing. They say it's because nothing is worth fighting for. Like this tiny ad:
