For anyone who has knowledge and a couple minutes...  trying to get a clear sense of what options exist for septic and nontraditional wastewater systems in Vermont. Anyone with experience doing this, especially if you've used an outhouse, a system involving humanure, etc—— all input appreciated.

If you are building a home with the plan that to live in it full time, my understanding is that you'll be expected to build a septic system.

Camps can be built without septic systems but I am not sure of the details.

Yup I can answer this one too. We should talk. Im not opposed to sub dividing our 80 acres to someone who understands off grid and taking care of land. Jules

Does anyone here professionally research, write and present arguments to permitting departments for alternatives to septic systems? Here's some info: https://buildingadvisor.com/buying-land/septic-systems/alternative-septic-systems/

If not, maybe someone here should start that as a career. People would pay a few hundred rather than $20,000 for an engineered septic system.

If there was no limitation what kind of system would you like to build?

I am going to assume that you would like to tackle 3 things
1) Grow food with the humanure that you collect from your "septic tank"
2) Do away with a septic tank and have a all in one composting system
3) Removing your grey water from the septic tank and drain field, instead watering growing plants.

Jules, here is an alternative I came up with. Of course it's totally illegal, but I'd love to see anyone try to keep me from using my own water I paid for however I see fit.
