I'm looking to put up a outbuilding next spring to be used as a
workshop and a place to clean eggs and any product from the garden. I have limited "build-able"
land in that much of my property is in an area that could be considered a flood-plane, thus the reason for going up rather than just building a bigger 1 story structure.
I'm thinking a 24' x 40' structure with the walls 14' tall and a 10:12 pitch roof built with rafters (not trusses). On the interior this would give me a 10' high first floor with a 2nd floor that starts out a 3' high at the edge and goes to 13' high at the peak (center) of the room. Throw in a couple of dormers and that would be a nice size of usable space in the top of the building. Additionally a 14' deep, shallow lean-to style roof along one of the 40'walls will provide space for
wood piles and a
tractor. The 2nd floor could even be finished as living space down the road.
I have it built in my head and have consulted with a builder to know that it will work. However I have to have a set of plans to turn into the department of making you sad to get a permit. I have the drafting skills to draw it on paper, but I went to school just long
enough ago to have missed out on CAD. I've tried out Sketch-Up a couple of times and just haven't been able to get it to do what I want. So if anyone out there knows Sketch-Up and wants to work with me on this, let me know. Any plans created under some kind of collaboration will be made publicly available for free. If I cannot find a fellow
permie I will will try the
local community college and see if a student needs a
project.
I realize that calling this "Timber Framing" is a bit if a stretch, but this is the closest forum I could find.
