People tend to zip down my neighborhood's gravel road. There's a lot of curves, trees, and kids, so it'd be nice if people slowed down a bit. So, I painted some signs!

They are painted with 100% milk paint, and sealed with tung oil.

I framed them with wood that my husband had salvaged from a woodshop's dumpster, some 12+ years ago. They're both installed on my neighbor's property (she's also tired of people driving too fast by her kids)

STEP 1: Sketch out a design for the sign and then transfer the design to the wood. (1.5 hours for the tall sign. 1 hour for the shorter sign)

STEP 2: Paint the white background, then the yellow, then red and finally black. (6 hours for the tall sign, 4.5 hours for the short sign. I painted quickly and without mistakes. It just takes a lot of time to paint such a large area!)

STEP 3: Seal with tung oil (30 minutes)

STEP 4: Frame it to prevent water damage! I used all manual hand tools (saw and drill and hammer) for this, and used old salvaged molding and wood from a woodshop's dumpster.  (Another 30 minutes)

measuring the wood
Sawing the boards to size
pre-drilling the boards
the boards assembled

STEP 5: Install! One was installed before the houses that have young kids from one direction. The other sign was installed before a blind curve coming from the other direction. (15 minutes to install.)

Tall sign installed

Shorter sign installed

Total time= 1.5+1+6+4.5+0.5+0.5+0.25=14.25 hours. I've made a lot of signs in my life, and painted a lot of stuff. I don't think a professional could have designed and painted these any faster.

EDIT: I forgot to add the "before" pictures, so here they are
