Community can mean so many things.  For the sake of this aspect, “community” is about bringing dozens of productive gardeners onto the same land - possibly under the same roof.  Permaculture is largely about replacing petroleum with people.  The intent of this aspect is to show Otis how you will be able to attract and retain a community of productive gardeners to help his land thrive for decades to come.

Note that the BBs in this aspect are brutally focused on the tasks that could help BUILD the very exact flavor of community we are seeking.  We have plucked out the hundreds of suggested BBs that were about experiencing community or building other types of community.

Create a community of 6 non-related people that lives together for 4 months and shares at least 1 meal a week - 15 points
  - Same 6 people for the same 4 months (can start and end with more than 6) are living on the same property
  - You create the community and entice the people to live there
Community art - 2 to 4 oddball points
  - needs to be in view of the community
Brand a piece of equipment - 1 point
  - give it a name and add some sort of interesting flair/character to the equipment
Upgrade a physical location that has already been branded (2 to 4 oddball points)
Create a private geocaching program and at least six points - 4 points
Make a ceramic tile informational sign and mounting post - 2.5 points
  - 2 additional points if you made the tile from local clay

  - At least 12 edible species and at least 12 packets of each species in a dry semi-secure location
  - At least 8 people check out packets
Run a seed swap - 1/2 to 5 points
Run a seedling swap - 1/2 to 5 points
Start a club - 2 to 12 points
Set up a cider pressing party - ½ to 6 points
  - the working participants must be there for at least a 2 hour period and make at least 4 gallons of cider
Set up a canning party - ½ to 6 points
  - the working participants must be there for at least a 2 hour period and make at least 20 quarts or 30 pints
Set up a chicken plucker party - ½ to 6 points
  - the working participants must be there for at least a 2 hour period and process at least 20 birds
Create a self guided tour with 12 points of interest - 6 points
Create a holiday (which could become annual) - 4 points
  - 1 more point if it’s a winter holiday
  - 1 more point if crafting is involved
  - 1 more point if physical activity is involved
  - 1 more point for a theme related meal
  - 6 more points if the holiday is even better on year #2 (submit to the same BB thread for these points on year 2)
  - You are the master of ceremonies, orchestrating the holiday to be fun for everybody and it lasts 3 hours
  - Need at least 8 people for all events throughout the period and there are at least 4 or more unique events/activities/traditions
Create a LIC (labor investment collective)  - 4 points
  - 6 more points if the LIC lives on past your contributions
  - at least three artifacts are created (one for you) with at least six people participating
     - Must be for a BB and all artifacts are relatively similar for each participant

wood badge
180 points required
  - Up to 50 points of duplication allowed from the Wood, Straw and Sand badges
  - New items from Sand and Straw badges allowed
        - Sand badge BBs are worth 1.5 points


Create a community of 6 non-related people that lives together for 6 months and shares at least 1 meal a week - 50 points
  - Same 6 people for the same 6 months (can start and end with more than 6) living on the same property
  - You create the community and entice the people to live there
Community art - 5 to 40 oddball points
Upgrade a physical location that has already been branded (5 to 20 oddball points)  
Create a food coop - 12 points
  - At least 8 members ordering food, making a bulk order, divvying it up and distributing it
Create a recurring farmers market or flea market - 10 to 20 points
  - 5 or more sellers, 5 or more non-sellers (shoppers) and at least three market days
Build a community garden - 20 to 50 points
  - At least 8 garden plots clearly marked out and labelled along with water, fencing, paths, rules and a shed.  Occupying at least 1/2 acre.
Manage a community garden for a year - 12 to 32 points
  - At least 8 gardeners
Manage a seed library - 20 points
  - Prerequisite is Create a seed library BB or adopt an existing seed library
  - System to maintain "true to type" seeds, semi-secure seed storage with good signage and seed saving info and hold one informational program
  - At least 6 people return good seed and 8 check out seed with a total of at least 400 seed packets
Create and lead a work party - 4 to 25 points
  - at least 6 hours of work and it doesn’t have to be a public thing
Facilitate a two day educational event/workshop/class - 10 to 30 points
  - Minimum 8 students at any time during the event, at least 16 hours of instruction and at least one meal provided per day
Facilitate a one week educational event/workshop/class - 20 to 60 points
  - Minimum 8 students at any time during the event, at least 40 hours of instruction, at least 5 days and at least one meal provided per day
Facilitate a two week educational event/workshop/class - 30 to 90 points
  - For example: PDC, ATC, SKIP event, etc
  - Minimum 8 students at any time during the event, at least 80 hours of instruction, at least 12 days and at least one meal provided per day
Set up a fair - 20 to 40 points
  - For example: Earth Day, Blue Grass music, Art, Harvest Fest, Fancy flea market, etc
  - At least 200 attendees, at least 6 vendors/booths, at least 2 presenters/workshops/artists/scheduled singers and at least 1 food option
