anyone growing Manuka trees in Zone 8?

I know the brochure says zones 9 and 10 and it's probably right.I just wonder if one would make it thru a zone 8 winter?

What a beautiful tree!  From what I have read just now on various sites, it can be kept as a shrub with pruning, which helps it produce more flowers as well as keeping it small.  I think you might be able to grow it outside if you plant it in a protected spot against a sunny wall.  It will flower best with plenty of sun.  You'll probably want to cover it with a blanket on freezing nights.  Or, if you don't mind keeping it as a quite small shrub you can plant it in a pot and bring it inside on cold nights.
