I planted all along the fence line at this rental, and put chicken wire to keep out nibblers and chickens. (The white pipe is the sump pump drain I put to take the moldy water out far away from the house.)

There is a possum who comes in the yard, I tried to seal the fence off at one point, didn't work, she just dug a new way under it. So my chicken wire was modified so she can go through her current hole under the fence, and come in, but bypass my plants. It's pretty tight against the chain link, and just moves her along her trail.  I'm hoping she hardly notices.

Tyler: thanks!
Not like I can win against the possums, and they DO keep the chicken messes cleaned up.
And... alright.... truth comes out, I feed them sometimes. It was a long cold winter, I made sure they didn't go hungry.
I am one of those women who feeds anything that gets within range of her.
Just don't want my veggies munched till I have had my share.

Great idea. I think it will work well once it becomes familiar. I've noticed opossums routinely follow the same paths. (they can be persuaded with dry cat food too) Ours are more interested in chickens than veggies. The groundhog (named her Beauxdacious Bucky) prefers Ruth Stout style buried food scraps.
