I figured I’ll start a thread of my own successes and failures. To learn and keep score, and to, hopefully, help others learn from my mistakes.

To start, here is a picture of beautiful swiss chard I am growing in my first ever raised bed.

Maybe I should mention that the raised bed is the first I’ve ever made, but I’ve been growing veggies for many years, in ground, in rows, did small farmers markets and small CSA in the past.

Really nice! How do you keep the slugs from eating everything? They have been pretty aggressive in raised beds here...

The raised bed is about one and a half feet from the ground, and it’s part of my two acre garden. Never had slugs problems in there.

It’s gophers that I am trying to avoid with the raised beds...

The one on the left is the calf in the above post, now almost two months old, and the one on the right is her “cousin”, purebred Guernsey, one month old. So nice to raise some heifers after many, many bulls/steers.

Oh, there are lots of trips to the barn and in the calf pen throughout the day.

They’re such good “medicine” for any ailment.
