my answer to poll questions are almost always outside the scope of the given answer choices. they are useful in some very cut and dry situations but tend to give warped conclusions on opinion related topics because of their simplicity. hmmm kinda like political polls..... . people try to use them to gain peoples opinions when they are only useful for gaining peoples facts. Age is a "fact" position on abortion is a complicated "opinion" and simple answers force people to choose the answer most closely resembling their position which can make it seem that the general populations position is much more extreme than it really is.
Well that makes for the need for the "other" category, and writing a response like you did. Seldom can something be answered in a word or a blanket statement. I usually pick the gist and add an explaination... What more could be asked for?
I'll participate in a poll if it interests me, but basically I don't care what other people think. I don't mean that in a nasty way, but I just don't care. I've lived and worked around enough people who have the same IQ as their shoe size long enough to know that their opinions are bizarre and often based on television.

thats funny. if it weren't so true!!! I've met a few (or more) of those myself. it took me many years to learn to just walk away from some people and realize my own stupidity in persisting with them.
