Where we think up future apple polls.  It could be books, blogs, bicycle clips, or whatever you fancy.  Let's have some fun.

I'm thinking about starting a poll each Friday.  Give one day to add more goodies to the list, and the voting is open until the next Friday.  How does that sound?

Feel free to suggest future polls here.  Please also suggest three options we can vote on per poll.  We're more likely to choose your idea if we don't have to think up the content.

Examples
best fermented pickle (cabbage, cucumber, carrot)
Best Christmas Son (Silent Night, 12 Days of Christmas, Oh Holy Night)
Favorite Fruit Tree (Apple, Pear, Mulberry, Quince)

Apple Polls so far

best end of the world movie
Worst Christmas Song
Favorite Christmas Song(s)
Favorite Lacto-Fermented Pickle

Myself...and myself alone...I think there is too much negativity to the world, and while I am not a huge fan of polls anyway, I think they should be what Kyle alluded too...positive in nature.

Maybe a silly thing, but can the polls be linked to images/videos? I'm thinking about permie-made stuff… best garden picture, prettiest tomato, most interesting house, etc.

Hmmm, I don't know. I'll try and fiddle around and see if the poll accepts BB code/urls. It might be the only way would be to have the links in the comments, or above the poll. Right now the polls are pretty simple--I can't alphabetize them other than doing it manually, for example.

I just made a new one about favorite Christmas songs (https://permies.com/wiki/73233/Apple-Poll-Favorite-Christmas-Song)!

Maybe we could have one that was just "Best permie picture", or "best picture taken by a member of Permies".

Sorry guys, I'm having a total brain fart on how to explain what I'm seeking.  Maybe someone can take these broken thoughts and put them into something comprehensible?

I'm seeking two things.

1. titles for future apple polls.  Examples:

Best Cli-fi books
Best youtube channel of 2017
Favourite seed source

I could probably think up enough to give us one a week for a year or two... but... the next thing is where I fall down.

2. stuff to go in the poll.

So, if we had Best Cli-fi books... what would be some options to put in the poll?  All I can think of is Year of the Flood by Margeret Atwood... That's only one book.

I feel we need at least three things to get a poll started.

Is this making sense?
I haven't the knowledge base or the google-fu to find three things to put under "Favorite YouTube channel".  But what if, when you suggest "incredibly awesome apple poll title", you could list the first three things to vote on in that poll.  That would make it so much easier to start a poll.

It looks like what you're wanting is what Julia did here, a title for the poll and three options for people to vote for:

Julia Winter wrote:best fermented pickle (cabbage, cucumber, carrot)

Here's more examples:
Best Christmas Song (Silent Night, 12 Days of Christmas, Oh Holy Night)
Favorite Fruit Tree (Apple, Pear, Mulberry, Quince)

So, really, what R is looking for is the idea for the poll, and what you'd put in it. We (and other voters) can get more things added to the poll once it starts, but we'll start with the things you suggest.

Favorite Trio: Apple, Comfrey, Nasturtium

Most useful handtool for working the forest: shovel, knife, wheelbarrow

Best nitrogen fixer: Comfrey, black locust, Siberian pea shrub

The permaculture or food forest book that you reference most often; Toby Hemenway, Gaia's Garden, Michael Phillips, Holistic Orchard, (I don't have a third yet)

Circling back to fill some in…

- Best seed source/retailer (Johnny's, Joseph Lofthouse, Peaceful Valley) Edit: Great thread on seed/root/tree source here

- Favorite Homestead-ish YouTube channel (Wranglestar, Sweedish Homestead, mylittlehomestead)

- Favorite Growies YouTube channel (Ridgedale Permaculture, Curtis Stone, Justin Rhodes, ABC Acres) - probably best to hold off for spring as everyone's closing up for winter

Awesome ideas.  Thanks all.  Keep em coming.

For the next apple poll, I'm going to try something different.  I think I can set up the poll without having the voting open.  Then we add stuff to it for a day, then I open the voting.  I think that might work.
