Can I add cob to the mass while the RMH is running?

Or will the temperature differences between the cold cob and tree he hotter exhaust pipe cause problems?

I've cobbed up enough of the RMH to test fire today and was wondering if I could keep it running while I worked on cobbing the mass.

Thanks!

Penny

Hi penny;
Yes you can.  Go slower when your actually covering the pipe directly.  The cob will dry faster and want to pull away.
Otherwise it is recommended to have it running... sooner it heats the sooner its dry!

Is your cement slab insulated ?  If so carry on . If not you might want some 2" eps foam under those horizontal pipes.
Amazing how much heat you will lose to the earth if you choose not to.

Woo Hoo!!!

Doing the happy dance!

Took a little while but got my first fire going in my bran new RM.

Put a candle in the clean out at the base of the upright part of the chimney. Used a lot of paper but the draft kept sucking the flames off the paper so I had to keep adding paper until the wood was finally able to catch.

Awesome!  So excited!

Congratulations Penny!!!  We all dance with you!
When I light my RMH . I place several sticks partially blocking the burn tunnel.  This keeps my paper from getting sucked up too fast.
You will find , that once your mass has heated up, lighting your RMH gets easy easy.
Keep up the good work!  And keep us posted with lots of photo's!
