My wife and I recently purchased land in Western, NC. Had a plan looked good on paper, but I underestimated the rainfall in the county we will be moving to. I understand sheep can run into foot problems in rainy climates and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for hot/rainy weather tolerant fiber breeds. Thanks all.

Hi,I checked out the Brevard area sometime ago. The spring rains there can be splendidly exciting. I seem to remember the weekend inward there it rained 11 inches.

Gulf Coast Native sheep are supposed to have good feet and good tolerance to Barber Pole worm but I don’t have any personal experience with them. My Icelandic’s have good feet but not good tolerance to worms.
But I think the most important thing is keeping their feet trimmed especially if it’s wet. When there feet get overgrown muck gets caught in their feet and causes problems. Trimming every 2 months is probably good enough. And a dry place to hang out helps too.
