Hydrofoil Hydroelectric Generator video from  MrTeslonian

This is a single foil HYDROFOIL Hydroelectric Generator that I designed to produce energy from the slow moving and otherwise useless water flows that are found all around the world. By using a hydrofoil wing instead of a turbine or pelton wheel we can generate large amounts of torque that can be turned into RPM's for use in generating electric energy. The hydrofoil design allows you to produce energy from rivers with little to no drop or head to the water flow, this will open up untapped hydroelectric resources the world over.

I haven't seen much of the hydrofoil design in people microhydro, so thought I would share this.

Twin Hydofoil version

This is a HYDROFOIL based MICRO-HYDRO Hydroelectric power production device that's designed for slow moving water flows with very little to no dop. By using two Hydrofoil wings instead of a pelton wheel or a turbine we can harness the energy of rivers and streams that were typically seen as unusable for use with Micro-Hydro hydroelectric production.  This is a simple to build design that could be scaled up or down depending on your needs.

Neat design, seems more prone to wear than a turbine but the advantages are striking for some situations...

Really what I want to see is actual power generation from it, though!

What a fun contraption. I love the things he builds. Will it work very well. Stay tuned

Given the formula Net Power = 1/10 x  Flow x Head
And that the avg consumption is over 24KWH in 24Hrs(1 day) or a supply of 1KW
1000W = 1/10 x Flow x a head of presumable 1ft
1000W= 1/10 x Flow x 1ft
1000W = 1/10 x Flow, thus we need a flow = 1000 x 10 or 10,000gpm to almost power a house.

I am not too sure where I can easily find such a flow. A head of 100ft and a flow of 100gpm is alot easier.

The video went over my head, but its so cool we have folks out their tinkering and sharing.

The next video in the series, showing the hydrofoil almost ready for pontoons.
