Hi, I'm a 38 year old veteran, nurse and homo. I live in midcoast Maine and am looking to go off grid in the next year. Have a VA loan to use. I am learning as much as I can and hoping to meet like minded people in the area. If you have any info that could be helpful, have an opinion, or just want to drop a line, I hope to hear from yall! Thanks! Mark

Welcome to Permies Mark!

Are you looking to get off grid in the energy and water sense, or in the food and income sense as well?
For example, I know a nurse in the northwest that  still works away from  his  homestead, but he grows most of his own food.

If its not to intrusive to ask, how is the covid situation affecting you?
I hope your doing well.

Covid is pretty tough, lucky to have a job that isn't going anywhere. I would like to be as self efficient as possible, not completely off electricity. Want to be off grid as much as possible food and water wise. So tired of the rat race, time to start living better!

Hi: We posted an ad that starts out saying: "permaculture homestead seeking"  and we are in Maine.  If the words we wrote appeal to you, feel free to start a conversation with us.

Hi Mark,

Here's my advice. Shop around with financiers for your VA loan. I went to 4 places and got the same quopte (and all of them had lines about how the "VA loan rate" is "pretty much standard") but then... the 5th one was a half percent lower.

Good luck buddy,

Dan
