A ton of land near me has burned, including private land that I can plant on with permission. I'd like to do something to help reforest, beyond what I already have on my property.

So, I'm hoping to plant non invasive plants using this method, but don't know much about it.  Advice is also great.

Thank you in advance!

To me it is very similar to just broadcasting seeds. Like what you did when you seeded your lawn or planted some dutch white clover.

You just throw some seeds and hope the birds and the squirrels will not eat the seeds
Hope that the seed will have enough moisture, vs just getting wet with the morning dew and dried out in the mid-day sun, before the roots make it into the soil
You also hope that the thrown seeds get enough darkness, which triggers it to germinate vs just rot from the moisture

The clay armor, mask the odor/shape of the seed, while also physically protect it. The clay ball can also be innoculated with soil life. It also makes the seeds of a uniform weight so that they are broadcasted evenly.

James, that is a great idea.

Here are some threads that might help:

Thank you both! I'll keep you posted on how it goes. It won't be much in the grand scheme of thing but it will help regenerate things faster. The land that's burning is largely doug fir monocrop, so there won't be a ton of other plants there to reseed. They spray to control other species on that land
