I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: "Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food in Hard Times,” by Steve Solomon. That is the only gardening book I ever read front-to-back, cover-to-cover, with copious highlighting, underlining, asterisking and so on. Mr. Solomon founded Territorial Seeds way back when; he also maintains

About a month ago, I was one of four winners on Permies.com of "Your Edible Yard: Landscaping with Fruits and Vegetables,” by Crystal Stevens, which is also published by NSP. I haven't read it in its entirety yet, save for miscellaneous sections; what I've read, I like very much!
