I learned something new this year. Fishermen in my area check the temperature of the water before fishing for trout in summer!

I live very close to the Battenkill river, a river renown for its trout fishing, and the local conservancy had shared a graphic similar to the one above.

I thought I would share.

Around here when the weather gets warm and heats up the rivers people fish for bass instead. But up in the mountains one can still come by trout this time of year at higher altitude, just not in the valleys.

Colder water can hold more dissolved oxygen than warmer water. When the temperature of the water gets high enough, some species die. So I encourage shade trees to grow by any waterways near my house.

In my area the only reliable place for trout is a reservoir with a depth of 90ft. As you said, cool water is critical.
