My wife and I are newer to
permaculture and alternative farming practices. We are reading lots of
books, watched the free
PDC from North Carolina University, and watching lots of videos, but I would like to actually visit farms to see first hand forest gardens and other farming practices. I know a number of
PDC's do farm tours but unfortunately I will be unable to attend one for at least 3 years due to my work schedule. We have 8 acres that we live on and I am starting to raise animals and garden but plan on starting an acre or two food forest in the next year. What I was wondering is if there is a list of farms that offer tours or if perhaps people can share farms in their areas that offer tours. We live in Northern Indiana, but are happy to travel for the right experiences. The farm tours that I know of are
Joel Salatin in Swoope, VA and Growing Powers in Milwaukee, WI. I know that neither is
permaculture, but both seem to have good ideas. Anybody have any other places? Thank you for any information.
