This year I decided to make presents instead of buy them. I've made two ornaments now, one for my brother and one for my sister. I didn't take any pictures of my brother's ornament as it was a rushed affair. He lives across the country and we had to mail the package this week to make sure it reaches him before Christmas. I have a lot more time for my sister's and all the rest, so I'm taking photos. The metal being used was originally used to make my bike fender. I'm just polishing it much more for these ornaments. Overall this has been a blast and I know these will make gifts that will last a long while and bring a smile to whoever's face year after year. Worth the expense on the oil paints I got! I was originally using nail polish for designs but I was getting headaches so oil based paint is where it is at now. The story behind my sister's ornament is that she says this all the time. Usually something along the lines of, "Thrive, girl!" when she sees me having a good productive day, or conversely eating half a bag of chocolate almonds. She'll like this gift.
Just a neat idea for those of you who with basic metal working skills who are thinking of potential gifts.

After second coat and lettering added...now just to put some designs on the other side
Just a quick update as I made some more and want to share. I made a mini christmas tree for each pair of grandparents. Just need to clear coat them then they're all done. It feels neat because they're both made of metal that would otherwise be rusting away in the scrapyard right now...now it'll bring a smile to my grandparents' faces. I kept it bare metal on the back because I like the rustic look it gives the ornament.
