I'm looking for a hat to wear when I'm in the field, so I can feel so much more agri-cultural.

High on my list are Dekalb Hybrids, John Deer, and Funk's Bros, just because they are the popular Ag companies where I came from. I could even get ironic and buy a monsanto hat, but I hate being ironic.

What would blow those out of the water would be a hat with a old-fashioned seed-company-ish badge saying "permies.com"

I'll just throw that idea out there. Even just a badge would be great, I could sew it on a blank hat myself.

What's good about a hat, better than a shirt, is that if you wear a hat, you tend to wear it much more than a shirt. So, more opportunities to persuade people about the awsomeness of permaculture (and permies.com).

William, I too would wear a hat probably much more than a T-Shirt. Is there one already and I don't know about it?

I think hats would be a good idea. Maybe the weeds message? Maybe a few different hats with different messages?

I'm trying to get alex to look at this and hear what he thinks.

Good idea. When I go to town, I have dozens of t-shirts, and they are usually hidden beneath an overshirt. One hat, and it is always visible.

http://www.downunderweb.com/store/media/HAT_Y1003.jpg I wear one of these. No brand name on it but it keeps the sun off, vents to the air to keep you cool, blocks the sun in your eyes and you just toss it into the wash when it's dirty and pops right back into shape!

I've noticed that there seems to be a kind of "permaculture hat" thing. They are different hats, but they are the same flavor. I think the hat above works for that. The problem is, once you put "Permies" on the front of a hat like this, it looks like the kind of thing you get at a tourist attraction. Like having a "Harry Potter" backpack. Harry Potter never had Harry Potter written on his backpack like a logo. How about a band that goes around whatever hat you get?

I'm a bit funny about wearing 'branded' stuff: I have this unfortunate vision of me in a matching permies hat and t-shirt.
Since I wear a hat all the time in summer, I like the idea of being able to take off the hat-band if I'm wearing the shirt

Oh, Alex, I keep forgetting to ask...are the Ts available at the moment?

In farm country, a lot of farmers wear a baseball cap that they got for free from the chem ag folks.

When I was a kid, everybody that wore a baseball cap wore

They were all pretty much the same only some were dirtier than others.

I took a trip to seattle and was taken to a car show where a vendor was selling hats. And he had one that was exactly the same only it said "DOG" instead of "CAT".

I had the most coveted hat in school.

The moral of this story is that the baseball cap with ag stuff is still a popular item.

That's actually what I was getting at. Unless it's a ball cap I'd do a band for a regular hat. Low-profile thing. Or you could have a logo on your hat that says, "MONSANTO had nothing to do with the production of this hat".

Or Permies.com, Today's gift to Tomorrow!

The Permies word could be written out like an old 50's logo and be "vintage". I like this one a lot.

I like it. In a lighter color of course. In todays 113 degree heat my head would be fried. Fried brains - I thought I already had those.

Here's the other idea. I think most Permies don't go for the ballcap thing. ...or do you? I never wear them myself, but I just don't think they are enough down here in the Sunshine State.

IMHO, baseball caps suck.

I will wear a hat either to keep my ears warm in winter, or to shade my head in summer.
A baseball cap does neither.

(Plus, we all know that ball players wear them backwards for some weird reason.)

People can submit ideas for the slogans AND submit their awesome photos.
