My husband actually met Sam Elliott!  Hubbie was a drill sergeant when Sam Elliott and Mel Gibson were filming "We Were Soldiers." Hubbie got to teach them how to throw a hand grenade. Hubbie said Sam Elliott was much more friendly, humble, and easy-going than Mel Gibson.
