I've noticed on my android phone that the bold and italic BB code defaults to normal formatting. Underline seems to work fine.

Tested with Chrome
Tested with DuckDuckGo

Running android version 9

Not a big deal but very weird that something as old as BB code would break on mobile devices.

Checked on my android (Brave Browser and Samsung Internet) and found bold and italics don't work on that either. Do any iPhone users also see this?

What does it look like with xbrowser set to mobile mode? If it isn't formatted then we can probably rule out android version and browser and say it is JForum missing something for mobile support.

Someone who has one should still check to be 100% sure it is an overall mobile site error and not just android compatibility.

Android 10, xbrowser, mobile view... Turns out the page setting for mobile / desktop overrides the browser's setting, by the way.
