I was reading through
hugelkultur posts and found this one very interesting.
I just wanted to say, I had bought
Mike Oehler's CDs about building
underground house, and one thing he mentioned:
if you use logs for the supports, turn them upside down, because
trees pull
water UP from below; if you turn them upside down, they will not pull water UP.
In the case of vertical hugelkultur, perhaps it would work the opposite way?
Turn the logs right-side-up, so the logs' method of pulling water upwards will work to draw water UP.
I had loaned the Oehler CDs to someone years ago, and forgot who, so they're gone; but I remember what he said about the direction the logs are facing and how they will not pull water upwards IF they are turned upside down.
