Most chicken predators come at night.  So locking your free-range chickens is a good idea.    In our case, the roosters like to crow at 4:30 AM, and I was going to start killing roosters with my bare hands if something didn't change.

So I went on Amazon and found a linear actuator for $29 and a remote controller for $8.   Connected to a lawnmower battery and a $5 trickle charger from Harbor Freight tools, and I now have a remote coop door opener

Here is a quick video of what I did:

It's cheap enough, and can work on a variety of doors.

I hope this is helpful to someone.

I like this a lot. Just today I was grumping about having to get out of bed to let the chickens out.

Here are the links to the stuff I use...

The actuator I have is $17 now:
https://www.amazon.com/Marhynchus-JS-TGZ-U1-Electric-Actuator-Multi-Function/dp/B08GFWCF5N

The remote I have has is $15 now, so the setup minus battery is only $32:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZFB9Z9B

Here is a battery pack for it:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08M49VHZ1

And here is a trickle charger for it:
https://www.amazon.com/WElinks-Maintainer-Universal-Rechargeable-Motorcycle/dp/B083SHF3PF

Wake up, push a button, and chickens are out.  Reverse the process in the evenings.  Rain or snow, heat or cold.    Really improves the chicken owning experience.

I love the smell of tiny ads in the morning!
