Most chicken predators come at night. So locking your free-range chickens is a good idea. In our case, the roosters like to crow at 4:30 AM, and I was going to start killing roosters with my bare hands if something didn't change.
So I went on Amazon and found a linear actuator for $29 and a remote controller for $8. Connected to a lawnmower battery and a $5 trickle charger from Harbor Freight tools, and I now have a remote coop door opener
