mushrooms for chickens?

Now that the rain has passed there seems to be lots of "ash tree boletes" popping up in the yard. I know they are edible though not very good tasting to people so I figured they would be ok for the chickens (if they'll eat them). does anyone else feed mushrooms to chickens? What other types would they like? Are there any mushrooms that would be ok for people but Not chickens? or vice verse?
I find lots of different mushrooms in the fall and know that a lot are edible but usually the slugs get to them before I do. I was thinking about feeding those ones to the chickens as well. Slugs and all

I can not find the reference now as the term paper I did was on my dead laptop but I read research about using mushroom substrate and trimmings from commercial mushroom farms as chicken feed in Taiwan. The research showed that the chickens fought infections more readily when consuming mushrooms than they did if feed high doses of antibiotics as are the practice there. If a factory farmed chicken can fight diseases on mushrooms then what would a homestead chicken be like with out the over crowding?

I threw a few in their area last night and they didn't really mess with them too much. There is some areas pecked out but nothing that looks like they enjoyed it enough to keep eating it. We'll see how it goes I guess. I'll keep chucking them in along with the other food that they get.

I'd suggest trying cooked mushrooms. My chooks won't eat things raw like carrots and squash. I throw them some table scraps and it is like chicken candy.

I'll build a solar oven for next summer.

The substrate mentioned earlier probably contains mycelium rather than the fruiting bodies. I believe they eat mycelium all the time when scratching on healthy pasture.

i was reading the same thing about hogs on mushrooms feed. also if it's a grey water system you use mushrooms to clean the water you could feed that for chickens.. it's pretty interesting idea

more so because you need so little light for mushrooms/ if you could grow a crap load of mushroom as supplemental feed
