So I started a tree nursery here in Missoula, MT. I figured I'd post about it here in the Missoula forum because many of the trees and plants were grown from locally gathered seed, and because all sales are local pick-up only and I currently am not shipping.

I have a ton of fruit and nut trees, like 50 different varieties, some available in pots but mostly bare-root.

I hope your business does well. Next time I am in Missoula I will make sure to stop by and buy some trees.

Abe, will you be shipping in the spring season of 2022?  Nice collection of plants!

Yeah, I will start shipping as soon as the ground thaws, probably March.

Order sent!  I'm really looking forward to trying some of your crabapples.  Thank you very much Abe.

Quick update, your crabapple seedlings are growing amazingly Abe....thank you again!  Lovely, quick growing, healthy trees.  I'm really excited thinking about what they'll look like in a few years' time.  I can't wait to start cooking with them and I'm sure my wildlife will appreciate them as much as I will.

Hi Abe,
Just curious, how tall/wide would you estimate that the Flathead cherry was that the seedlings came from?  Just doing a little planting planning.
Thanks again!

I'd say it was about 20 feet tall and nearly as wide.

Hi,

I see your Hawthorns are sold out.  We have a red Hawthorn, but it has never reproduced even though it makes lots of seeds every year.  There are plenty of other Hawthorn trees around our neighborhood.

How can we get a start from it?

Hawthorns need like 4+ months of cold stratification, and some types may even need a cold/warm/cold stratification. Basically you plant the seeds in an outdoor seedbed, keep the weeds out of it the first year, and hopefully the second year you'll have a bunch of hawthorns germinate.

You also might have some success grafting hawthorn onto something easier to grow from seed like apples or pears.
