Hi guys, I have made a few videos this year following my latest J Tube hybrid rocket stove.
There has been a few interesting experiments, the glass cooking top was not a great success  as the ceramic glass seem to allow huge amounts of heat to pass straight  through, it  slows down the start up and in fact makes the cooking surface too hot and too centred, so the edges of the cooking plate dont really get that hot.
The vortex does change the fires behaviour but does not really make much overall difference.
The vortex seems to send the flame out of the riser which looks really cool but probably does not help the clean burning aspect?
I have learnt a bit about controlling the burn and using certain size and types of wood, as all have an effect but basically the thing is like a dustbin, it starts very easily and quickly, one full load will last 40 mins but you can add virtually any shape or size wood to good effect, just lift the lid and drop in more wood.
Since the last video I have fitted a new 10mm steel top (cut with a water jet) and this really is a nice improvement.

This one shows how the ceramic glass effects the performance…….

We had our first seasonal party last night, the cat gets confused as he is used to sitting in front of an standard log burner that radiates heat out the front, he keeps staring  at the rocket stove wondering why he is not getting roasted!

Fox, that is beautiful. The whole environment is just too cool. And the front glass and feed tube lid are amazing. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Searing sirloin  steak at 550c, I pined together 4x 1” thick sirloin steaks with long cocktail sticks and seared the fat in the centre  of the hot plate.
I then took them apart and seared both sides of the individual steaks around the edge of the hot plate at around 380c  for about 2 mins a side.
Rested for 10 mins above the hot plate on the wire rack, came out perfect ……

the struggle IS the education. Wise old tiny ad:
Switching from electric heat to a rocket mass heater reduces your carbon footprint as much as parking 7 cars
