In the instructions on the All American Canner I’m told to only let the weight “jiggle” 1 to 4 times a minute.

The presto canner weight is allowed to jiggle constantly.

I want to buy an All American Canner like I used to have. But, I found it liberating not to have to babysit the presto canner. I can just get the weight to jiggle gently and walk away.

My question is what difference does it make? They both are on a stove, have water and require pressure. The only difference is the thickness of the materials used to make the two canners.

Why can’t I let the All American Canner weight Gently rock constantly like the presto canner?

Constate jiggling can cause a loss of moisture. Occasional jiggling indicates you are maintaining the correct pressure.

This may or may not help:

Thank you for the reply, my presto I leave that constantly jiggling. I usually have plenty of water left over after a canning run.

I just wish I could get away with that with the all American cancer! LOL

Thank you for trying to help. 🙂

you can - the jiggler on my all-american was getting to "either on or off" ..

i swapped out another, cleaned the seat - still i was having the "1-4 times" issue..

i use a propane base so i now adjust the heat until the pressure gauge sits @ exactly the desired pressure and walk away..

no issues, even with tattler lids!

I have both canners. The All American is by far the better.  I have seldom had a problem maintaining a steady pressure.  Yes, I use LP.
