As my signature says, I'm presently living in an apartment, saving up for a first-time house (it's slow going). I've lurked here for awhile, and just wanted to say hi! I've been trying to cultivate a permie mindset even without access to much more than a community garden plot. Last year was my first year with the plot and we had some success and many failures, learning what does and doesn't do well there (Brassicas are out, lettuce, bok choi, kale, and mustard greens are in). I've also been guerilla gardening a bit - sneakily planted some native irises in the apartment complex the other day...

Anyway, you'll see me lurking around, making random comments and asking random questions and making many bookmarks in hope for the future!

Welcome! Thanks for coming out of the shadows and posting!!!

I used to live in Virginia over a decade ago. It's a beautiful place but the deer always made gardening tough.

Oh my gosh, yes, the deer are insane. My parents live on the other side of town and their hostas are now non-existent and their roses rarely keep any blooms. They have literally had deer sleep in their yard. In the middle of a suburban neighborhood, no woods nearby. They're like, why not just sleep in the buffet?
