Are there any animals that ou could leave around grapevines for a while and that would browse on the leaves without eating all of the grapes too?

Three of my muscadine vines are in the poultry yard. 23 chickens and two geese. They keep the vines trimmed up to about three feet off the ground. Their wings are clipped so they can't get up higher to get the fruit. They also keep the ground around the vines free of fallen/rotten fruit and fairly weed free.

I think it is an arrangement that works well for both me and the birds.

Wow! What a great answer. Let's see who posted that ... oh look, it was me!

I'm resurrecting this thread as part of me quest to see what my livestock will eat that I've already got growing on my land.

Now, I sort of knew that sheep would eat grape leaves but there's a fair bit in their paddock. I suppose it could be just out of reach. Anyway, today I cut down a pin cherry that had wild grapes growing up it. I decided to see if the cows would eat it and sure enough they stopped eating their hay and went for the grape leaves. They even ate the unripe grapes! I piled some up and the sheep came over and started eating and so did the chickens!

And now I have just learned that dried grape leaves are traditional animal fodder in the grape growing areas of western China - and the taste comes through in the "lamb" and mutton. Grape leaf hay? Hmmm. Makes sense.
