I used to do most of my pruning and log cutting with a really crappy folding pruning saw. My friend recommended replacing it with a good Silky. So I bought a gomboy folding saw and have been using it for several years to great success after that.
The time finally came for a replacement blade because two teeth were broken and the tip was bent into a curve. The teeth broke because I mistakenly thought this was an all purpose blade since it cut so well, and was hacking some small branches with it a little too vigorously. It is good at sawing, it is not a machete and it hasn't forgiven me for treating it as one. The blade bent when it got stuck in the kerf of a very thick branch (or maybe trunk) that I was cutting. It got pinched because I failed to make a sufficient relief cut.
Anyhow, the time came and I found a replacement blade on sale at a very reasonable discount, so I snatched it up.
I tried to replace it immediately only to find that it wouldn't fold up. The release lever was jammed when the blade was in position.
I was dejected and left it be for far too long until today.
Today I got out some little diamond files and experimented on it while examining the blade. Visually it is absolutely identical in profile to the original blade, so I was stumped for the longest time. I filed a little here and there to no avail. Finally I found the problem and filed down the peak at point "A" highlighted in the picture. I took maybe 0.02 or 0.03 mm off it, and it now finally folds up just like it
should.
I am looking forward to using this to cut the
wood to make my heirloom quality bucksaw frame for the Bahco blade I have sitting around. Then my lumber processing speed should improve by 2x-3x.
