Hi everyone, Okay, so I've combed the Permie threads and there are tons of bits and pieces about various creative variations on the rocket stove, but I'm looking for plans for just a simple, tried-and-true, yet durable rocket stove (not rocket mass heater, just a rocket stove for cooking)---probably made with fire bricks? Most of the posts I found were retrofitting something or trying something wild, innovative, and new. But for my first foray into this, I really want to make a stationary rocket stove that doesn't have any crazy new bells or whistles but will simply help me cook efficiently off-grid, day in and day out (no tin cans, I believe, as they won't take the wear and tear). Can anyone point me in the right direction???

The research continues at aprovecho but they have moved on to forced air stoves.  They have many publications available at
http://aprovecho.org/publications-3/

The part of the original rocket stove many leave off is the pot skirt.  2/3 of the way up the pot with a ~10mm gap around the pot.  Without the pot skirt the efficiency is little better then an open fire.

A very basic stove.  The sprocket stove

If you are going to use it daily you will want a chimney.  Move that smoke out of you air space.

Aprovecho has a video on building a small rocket stove

And then there is the 28 brick stack.  I think this thread covers it very well.

Hi Liz!

As part of the Earth Friendly Heat movie KickStarter Im developing plans with 3d models for 6 rocket builds including a rocket cooktop with a Lorena Option developed at Wheaton Labs during the Rocket Mass Heater Jamboree. They’re on the final stages of production and will link them here asap. The movie also has a section showing the construction process for this rockety cooktop.

Is there a way to just get the 'Rocket Cooktop with a Lorena Option' plans or video a la carte instead of the whole 16 hours of the free heat videos that's offered as a big bundle?? thanks!

Hi Elizabeth!

Here is the pre-order thread for just the Rocket Cooktop with a Lorena Option:

https://permies.com/t/193727/Plans-Rocket-Cooktop-Lorena-Option

The plans are in the very last stages and shall be up in the next days. We received a lot of good notes that weve applied to make them a lot richer.

Cheers!
