Unfortunately the soil at the rental allotment has a lot of fungal issues.
Transplants do fine, but direct seeding isn't very successful. When it rains I'm also getting a lot of fungal issues destroying very young fall zucchini. I know mulching in general to protect plants from direct soil is a good idea, but I was thinking marigolds are supposed to be anti-fungal. And they were growing prolifically in my plot.
So I'm attempting to mulch WITH chop and dropped marigold plants under my young zucchini. They just started producing and we've only really got a couple more weeks to get any in before the nights get too cold for squash plants, so I may have to repeat this earlier next year to see if there are any beneficial results!
