In the "Garter Snakes" thread, I mentioned a "toad abode". Well, here's a variation. Some years ago, a friend gave me this little "house" to store gardening tools or misc. items. I haven't been able to store anything it it these past 2 summers. The tree frogs have squatter's rights!

how did I miss this post at first?! maybe it is just the way the pic is taken but that looks like one fat frog! few things are more pleasurable to be than to sit outside in the spring and listen to the frogs.....ahhhh....spring.......cool weather.....

That frog is a big 'un compared to others of his kin that I've seen around here. Maybe that's how he got condo rights!

I dunno if they eat mosquitoes (for a treefrog, wouldn't they be like shrimp are for us?) but I hope so, and if so...they have a feast for thousands around here!

I don't know if she has a bat box but I know that I have been at her house in the evening and watched bats come swoop down and drink out of her pool so they must be living somewhere! it was really cool and i won't ever forget it. I think that was the big drought year.......they must have been really thirsty.

I do have a bat box...but...I'm embarrassed to say that we haven't put it up yet. We should. I have concerns about it ending up housing wasps more so than bats. We have a lot of red wasps, mud daubers, etc. around here. I'm not certain, but I believe all the bats in Okla. migrate south for the winter. I need to do a little research and find out where is best location for the bat box. Our house is single level ranch style. Not very tall.

Earlier this summer (when it was dry) I saw 3 bats fly by & drink from the pool. They were different sizes too. Kinda like the 3 bears. It was waaay cool!

I'm pretty sure we have a worse than usual mosquito problem this year because the house next door is in foreclosure and there's an above ground pool in the backyard. I have been lobbing mosquito dunks over the fence & into the pool, but the population seems undaunted! It's also been really, really wet lately! Other neighbors have bad habits of leaving buckets right side up in their backyards and don't mow their backyards very often. GRRRRR!

mosquitos are miserable little creatures. when I would visit my parents in tulsa the mosquitos were always horrendous! nothing like that in more rural areas. I think part of it is that there are fewer natural predators due to many urban factors and so many people with so much "stuff" collecting water in a small area.

yes i have them in birdhouses and any nook or cranny they can find around here as well..they are really pretty,kinda that wierd celadon green and silver

Yep, we get the green ones too! I've noticed that frogs (including bullfrogs) coloring changes somewhat, depending on temperature & the time of year. I've seen these green ones looking more of a mint green at times, vs the yellow green you see here. However, they don't change from green to brown or grey. Their coloring just seems to vary in intensity at times.

I have frog envy

I hear them all over here but don't see much. although I did see what I think was a crawfish frog which was new to me.
