Hi,

I just came across this post, webpage stating that you can use an old android phone instead of a rasberry pi to use as a mini-computer.

That made me wonder: would it be possible to build a chicken egg incubator, or even better, a duck egg incubator having cooling cycles, controlled by an old smartphone?

If yes, how and where would you connect the different things (humidifier, thermostat, thermometer, hygrometer, egg turning control...)?

I have no idea of programming or phones. I just built an incubator which worked for chicken eggs, but had to turn the eggs manually. With duck eggs, it failed, maybe the humidification or the egg wetting was off.

You could do this, or you can build a simple and cheap analog thermostatic control. I got a kit from the local electronic hobbyist supply shop that was designed for fridges and changed a resistor value to make the setpoint 39 degrees C.

Hi, yes, using a simple thermostat is easy to make an incubator work.

However, duck eggs need to be cooled once, then twice a day for 10 to 20 minutes, and humidified. In addition, they need to be turned. For this, a tool where I can connect: motors, humidifiers, hygrometers, thermometer, heater, and ventilation would be quite helpful, especially if it is based on an old smartphone.

I'm sure someone could strip the ISO off the phone and reprogram it to do that, but your still stuck with only having a USB port for communication.  A second board would be needed that had a small CPU on it to transfer info to and from the phone.

Even with soldering wires to the phone I'm sure it dose not have the IO needed to read the 2 or 3 inputs you would need and be able to run 3 or 4 relays.
