Hi all;
The first two years I had my 6" batch in the studio it was built to Peter's size specifications.
A "stock" 6" batch has a box length of 171/4" measured from the door to the rear wall.
Deduct 2" + from that for the secondary air tube sticking up.
If using a flat door deduct 1" minimum as the wood in a batch must have air circulation.
If using a Dragon tech door with a viewing window deduct 2" more.
With a flat door, your cut wood needs to be 14"
With my doors, I was cutting my wood 12-13" What a pain in the butt!
My other stoves all take 16" easily and up to 20" if I misjudged how long it is. (Yeah typical guy)
When I rebuilt the 6" this summer, it got the high-performance extended-length upgrade!
I now have 17" from the riser stub to my dragon tech door and almost 20" from the flat door to the rear wall!
What a luxury to not have special cut wood just for the studio.
I buy my wood by the log truck. I can cut it any length I want.
Having cut firewood apx 16" my whole life it is tough to suddenly cut it shorter.
Now I can cut all my wood the same length and if some is a little longer that's OK.
I highly recommend this upgrade to all 6" batch builders!
