Greetings all,

Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a book (other training material also welcome but I have a learning preference for books and then more) on setting up rigging for using in the felling of trees and moving logs? There is a fair bit of discussion on the topic here, but I don't see a lot of basic "how to set up rigging" and could use some help in that sphere. As it is I'm not entirely unversed in tree felling and a great deal more of it is in my future as I live on badly overgrown wooded average that I would like to return to a useful savannah type environment. That and we do get a lot of fallen trees during hurricanes and sometimes moving them is needed, usually that's just a matter of a ton of sawing to get them into hand-moving sized logs, but that tends to waste a Lot of timber since pine doesn't make for good fuel wood and we don't currently have a setup able to make use of the pine via turpintine or pitch production.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry man, no good books to recommend. I am more of a youtube guy with trees. I gotta see it being done.

Really, for my home use which is pretty similar to yours, I just use a throwball and then a running bowline to get a rope in a tree for pulling and that's about it. I have used a few pulleys to keep myself safe and make it easier from time to time.

A good knot site:

P.S. Pine gets a bad rap. It's just light so you need more of it. Pound for pound the BTU's are almost exactly the same as oak.

Thanks for the author hunt, shunted me down some other rigging rabbit trails too.

Pine does get a bad rap, these would have been great timber trees if I had a mill ready to rock after a storm. That said, and not to totally derail the subject, but I wonder if pine would run in a gassifier well with all the extra volatiles? Got to get it small enough to use for that, though usually I would want to make something from large diameter trees given the time and equipment.

Here is useful sites I have used https://tcimag.tcia.org/tree-care/exploring-the-principles-of-rigging/
Another book that might be helpful "Riggers Apprentice" by Brian Hoss
