An aquaintance gave me 2 "runners" from her flowering quince (not "regular" quince, but she cooks with the fruit)
Only 1 of the ones I recieved survived the first year.
No idea what species they are.  Might they be what you are looking for?  I can ask her if she saves seeds when she makes membrio from the fruit, but I only see her a few times a year.
I'm hoping to get a few more plant starts from her in future years.
I see that we are both in MI

Thanks for the reply! I would appreciate it if you asked her if she knows which variety/cultivar she has.

Thanks!

Zakk,

It's not a seed, but a plant.

Aromatnaya tree

I buy a lot of trees from Burnt Ridge. Two quinces that I planted in March are doing very well in my continentalized mediterranean climate. The quince was a large tree with thick trunk - not some microscopic seedling that would die after few days or be eaten by rodents.
This year I ordered Aromatnaya and Krimskaya.

Her response to my inquiry about her quince from several months ago:
"Yes, they are both flowering quince.  The darker orange one that is doing better for you is a from a start that came from my parents house in Illinois that was already there when we purchased the house in 1968, so it’s origin is completely unknown.  The other one I bought from a nursery mailorder house some years ago.  Both flower in the spring and both produce fruit.  I use it to make Membrillo, or quince paste, which is great served with cheese, but can also be used to glaze a nice ham or make any number of sweet-tart condiments.  It is very similar to Tamarind in flavor, and whether my quinces are true quinces or not, the product is very similar to commercially available quince paste."
So it looks like I have Flowering Quince (Chaenomeles sp), which is NOT what you are looking for.  Sorry I can't help.

Thanks for asking! The seed for Aromatnaya is tough to find, so I’ll probably just order a tree or two

Zach, I just processed a bunch of Aromatnaya fruits to make some membrillo.  I removed the seeds when I chopped the fruit and am currently soaking off the pectin in a bowl.  Was planning to broadcast them up and down my rural road since the town disturbed the road's edge because they did some road work.  Having said that, I'm happy to broadcast some your way (via the USPS) if you're still looking for some.  If so shoot me a PM.
Cheers.

Hey Greg! I’d love and greatly appreciate if some of that seed ended up my way! Is there a way I can send you my address and info in a less public way?

Sure.  Click on my name and it'll take you to my profile page.  From there you can hit the PM button or you should see my email.   Either of those ways will be fine.
