I've started growing Mushrooms indoors since it's winter in the Nor'east. Now thinking about spring and how to expand this growth.

Has anyone worked thru what and where to start, what goes with or not with, how far to space species and so forth?

I'm 'ere in the Nor'east (as mentioned) so very interested in farming mushroom styles in my region.

P.S. Any winter failures are being dumped in my composting areas in hopes as spring and warmth happen, maybe something else as well. Dump on the soil or in the septic... there lies a question..

I am glad to see that you are starting mushrooms indoors.

Mushrooms offer so many benefits to the soil and to be eaten.

I hope all of your plantings go well and that you get lots of mushrooms.

Be sure to ask questions as you that you may have.

Sadly, if something doesn't work out then put that in your compost pile.  You may find that the mushrooms that didn't work like the compost pile.

Have you looked into the info North Spore offers?
I'm admittedly not especially knowledgeable about mushroom growing but have found some of their Youtube videos to be really interesting. They are based in Portland Maine so would be region-appropriate. Here's their "about" blurb: "We'll teach you how to cultivate mushrooms from the micro home setup to the small to medium sized mushroom farm, show you how to maintain fungi cultures in a home laboratory, scale up your farming operation, and maybe learn something new about fungi loving cultures and foraging."

Hi RJ, so you’re interested in growing mushrooms!

I, too, like growing mushrooms.  I have grown them for the actual mushrooms, but more for the compost they yield up.

For my purposes, Wine Caps are a great way to get started with fungi.  They are just about the most bulletproof mushroom you can grow.

For an even better mushroom, but just ever so slightly more difficult to grow, consider oyster mushrooms, particularly blue oysters.

Either of these are fairly easy to start.  If you are interested, I have a long-running thread on mushrooms I keep updated HERE:

I hope this is helpful.
