Kenneth, I grew up on my great grand parents homestead in Northern Wyoming. I have lived in various places over the years and am back to living in the "dirt". Carry water, chop wood...carry wood, chop water!
We have a little camper trailer with power and a fridge and couple 3 freezers out side. We are building a non-electric home in our pole barn to share with our cows, alpacas, dogs, cats and assorted skunks (that live under part of the floor...good mousers and spider eaters.) We live in the mountains with minimal heat, so winters are layers of warm cloths. I had a job working in a little deli a few miles from here, I was the only person who could clean out the walk in cooler with out a coat and not freeze to death. I guess one can get used to the cold if one wants too.
