We are looking for a self-directed someone with handyman/gardening/permaculture experience (or interest) to help develop/maintain our Jupiter, FL 5 acre homestead. Half of our unique property is a lake and I’m currently working on the shoreline.

In exchange for about 15-20 hours of work per week (task based agreement - everyone works at their own speed) we provide your own fully furnished tiny house/utilities , eggs and a plot of land you can develop for your own food.

Long term position in a beautiful location. 3 month commitment to start and to see if we have a fit. There is some flexibility in hours - especially if you are looking to work an outside job.

We are looking for a long term relationship with the right person. This is a great opportunity for an independent person interested in subtropical permaculture, chickens and the southern Florida lifestyle.

Non-smokers only please.

Photos may help.
What sort of projects do you have in mind?
What is the soil like?
Is lack of water an issue?
Is there a bicycle to ride to town on?
How far is it from a town?
mobile phone and Internet available?

I live in South Florida very close to Jupiter. I have far more pepper and tobacco plants than I can possibly plant in my suburban cage in Winstrip trays right now.

I am actually quite interested even though I've been actively looking to head north. If I don't stumble upon something up there I'd be interested in trying this out while I try to find a van to convert.

I'm always thinking long term, so what would the long term outlook be? 10 years down the road, get the boot? The reason I frame it in 10 years is because most fruit trees don't fruit for 5-10 years, and our area, if anything, is mostly ideal for fruit trees and fruit trees alone, save for some hearty veg like Seminole pumpkin and cassava. It'd be unfortunate to never reap the actual fruits of labor.

Being 15-20 hours/week of course income would need to be supplemented, perhaps I could document the work in a blog or on YouTube.

I'm interested... Just trying to work out how this could unfold, how I could make it thrive and also collect monies to buy land in the north, because relocating 30 minutes away in a familiar climate is a bit easier than trusting a stranger halfway across the country to successfully help relocate my entire life without bumps in the road.

I already have any number of things in place here, such as cell phone, a Berkey water filter, pressure canner, etc., all I would have to do is relocate stuff that I have in my "moving pile" which already exists. I have a "take the plunge" pile of permie-type homesteading equipment ready to move at a moment's notice when the opportunity arises. Strike while the iron is hot, may hay while the sun is shining type of thing.

I realize the original post was over a year ago. Regardless i am absolutely interested. I do have experience raising chickens and caring for injured chickens. I enjoy growing produce on a small level. Would enjoy learning how to grow things on a larger scale as needed.

If there's still a need please feel free to contact me. I am from South Florida so I'm very familiar with the weather and how often it changes, except for the temperature.

Is this still available? I'm not very experienced in what you're looking for but I'm not dumb either. I'm a willing and fast learner. I do have a background which might be a problem, however, I tend to keep to myself, I'm quiet, and a clean person. If you're willing to talk about it you can send me an email at jamesrcress75@gmail.com or call/text me at 352-236-9940.

Thank you,

James Cress

Hello! I am very interested in this opportunity. I’m a very handy (female) and can do almost anything once shown the correct way. Getting to stay in a tiny home in exchange for work sounds wonderful. Just get back to me if this opportunity still stands. Thank you so much.

Hello,

I am very interested in your offer for a work exchange, if you are still looking for someone. I have been seeking a way to embrace farm life more fully. I possess some farming experience from working on a couple of friends' farms.

I am a single, adventurous professional female with a creative and artsy domestic side. I am very handy and take on any task, no matter how big. My resume is quite diverse; I have worked as a nanny, earned a degree in education, managed an Irish bar, owned a dog walking and pet sitting business, served as a K9 agent in Waco, TX, worked as an import/export agent for live animals, worked as a floral designer, acted as an innkeeper, and was an RV sales associate.

I am looking to transition to this lifestyle full-time in Florida. I love cooking, juicing, and gardening. The housing market is quite challenging right now, making this opportunity a dream for me in many ways.

Feel free to contact me anytime at carrieanna04@gmail.com or by phone at 860-518-3855 / 239-371-0680.
