I agree with Gray. I've never heard of soaking for 5 months before. That's a really long time, and like he? said, you will favor anaerobic microbes, exactly what you don't want in your garden, probably. The longest I've heard of for soaking is 2 weeks. That's what I do, but I just drench them once a day and leave the microbes to wander the char and fill themselves into the micropores the rest of each day.
Some people will let their
chickens infuse the char with nutrients. Others will put in in a
compost mix. Those might last for 5 months, but they are passive, completely aerobic procedures, so you're favoring the microbes you probably want.
