Found a nut bearing tree.

It could be Pecan, Walnut or who knows what.


Neighbors said maybe hickory.


If this is a hickory, does anyone know a species it could be?


Mississippi, near Jackson maybe a half hour drive away.


Zone 8b.

Trees are very tall. I like the tree and don't see many of them.

I'm mostly trying to make sure it's not a Butternut or anything.

I also wanna try growing more of these, just near an area we are going to be using for spotting deer and things.


Or any Juglans.


An edible nut tree that's a local ecotype would be nice.

I use the PlantNet app to help with identifying plants. It says your tree might be carya pallida, sand hickory.

I would dry some of the larger nuts and then open them up to see what is inside.

Looks like hickory to me; I don't know enough to say what specific variety.
