The annular "ring of fire" solar eclipse will be visible across the Americas on Oct. 14, 2023.

Anne, I hope you are getting a good view of eclipse!  Sadly, we have gray, overcast skies today.  We were supposed to be about 60% eclipsed today, but the peak came and went and I could not tell a difference.

Now in April, the path of totality not only passes right over my house, but my own home will be right at the peak point of totality!  Incredibly, we had another total, long-duration (2 minutes, 30 seconds) eclipse that also peaked right over my house back in 2017.  It was AMAZING!!  I did get some pictures that I took of the eclipse during totality that I shot through my camera with a solar lens.

I hope weather is perfect there for you!

Eric

The weather was perfect here.  The solar eclipse dropped the temperature about 10 degrees.

After the eclipse, we had ribs and potato salad.

Everyone has gone home now and I can relax.

We were only scheduled for a nibble out of the sun here, so I ignored it.

Forgive me, when I saw "Ring of Fire" I instantly thought of the old J. Cash tune.

For those fond of extremely spicy food, there is an unofficial variant of that song, in the day when friends and I would cross paths with a Cajun chef who would make chicken wings so deviously hot that you could not stop eating them or die -- we were addicted to the flavour and the endorphins.

But as with all guilty pleasures, there comes a cost:

I woke up with a burning ring of fire /
It went down, down, down, and the flames went higher/
And it burns, burns, burns, that ring of fire/
That ring of fire.

Those of you who know will understand. My apologies to everyone else -- this is a rather rude something you can't un-hear. But it's hilariously true! It didn't stop us from going back, once we recovered.
