I want to develop a property in southern MN and need some skilled design help, especially with a seasonal climate battery for a big greenhouse. Ideally, I'd like help with the other structures and systems too, but it's the climate control element that I'm having the hardest time with. I'd be glad for any leads and any advice. Thanks!

Welcome to Permies, Court, and I hope you find some good information and solutions here.  I grew up in southern Minn. and now live in the northern part.  Although I can't offer the expertise that you seek, here is a link that could prove an information starting point for your objectives:  https://extension.umn.edu/growing-systems/deep-winter-greenhouses

Another link, quite large and less "permie" in concept, but probably inspirational for growing greens year-round in southern MN:  https://www.revolgreens.com/about/

Good luck and hopefully others will chime in soon with additional resources.

Thanks John. That DWG design is the core of my plan! I hadn't heard of the greens company... TEN ACRES of greenhouse?!?! I'm dazzled. Fascinating stuff--I appreciate the tip!

I realize now my initial post was dumb. I should have been much more clear in my request: I'm hoping to connect with an engineer who would help me design a system using a giant greenhouse swimming/growing pond as a heat sink. I know plenty of people are using small versions of this idea, but I am hoping to find someone who will help me build a BIG version of it.

Does anyone know of an engineer in the area who is keen to work on permaculture-oriented designs?

Hi Court, welcome to Permies!
That sounds like an awesome project! So you're thinking of a large indoor swimming pool to act as seasonal heat reservoir and edible plant growing area? As you say I know people use water tanks to store heat, but an open pond is somewhat different. Makes sense to stack functions as much as you can though.
Good luck and hopefully someone here can help out.

I'm not sure where in southern MN you are, but the folks at New Story Farm near Hutchinson might be good contacts to make if you're anywhere near there.

Hello Court!

Have you found the help you were seeking yet?  I probably wouldn't prioritize helping with your project since I'm already more than booked up for the next year or so but I'd offer at least some advice and assistance if it would help you move the project forward.

While I'm not an engineer I do have some education in that area and have built my own passive solar home with the help of an architect.  If you'd like to visit this winter we could go over some of your ideas or concepts and start to analyze them for feasibility if you haven't done so yet.

Hopefully you're already moving along but send me a message if not!

-Scott
