Hi there, we're proud caretakers of two compost toilets at our off-grid cabin. We've had a few guests and thought it'd be helpful to post instructions, for reference. I saw the Wheaton Lab sign (below). Wondering if anyone else has anything posted by their semi-public toilets.
I have mates with an airbnb which has a cartridge toilet.
In 12 months no sign worked, people just thought it was the same as a standard flush unit.
It was pathetic to see how ignorant people were with it.
In Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas, simple dry composting toilets were the standard toilet for centuries. I made this poster for villagers to put up in their toilet rooms if they were expecting to host tourists or trekkers.
I heard last week that the local government has announced a new scheme of subsidies for village homeowners to develop homestay tourism, but it includes a requirement for flush toilets. Augh! There's no central heating here so those will freeze and crack if not drained out for winter. Aside from there not being running water into house plumbing. Damn, damn, damn. Ugh.
Oh well. I guess the Indian govt is very pro flush toilets because the rest of India has historically had a public health problem due to open defecation, and the Modi govt has proudly announced the elimination of open defecation.
