Hi,

On Facebook today I saw a story about 6 engineers from Germany that are working on survival pods and I wondered if anyone here has done something similar.

Interesting. I have not heard in the news about it. In Germany its intended use is for homeless people that for some reasons decline to go to shelters. Apparently there is only a prototype up to now.
The website is fancy but I had to cry a little because so many commas were missing in the text, haha!

I asked Google about "survival pods" which resulted in an interesting adventure.

Besides the Ulmer Nest, there are some pods designed to ride out a tsunami.  Round balls like a fishing bobber.

The Ulmer Nest is designed to be placed in parks to help keep the homeless from freezing in the town of Ulm, Germany.

Is anyone selling this yet? Tiny homes have become exorbitant of late, this would be a great option.

Not quite the same as the Ulmer Nest, but also a tiny solution for sleeping (and traveling) is this example for a bike-camper - at the moment there are only two prototypes:
Bike-camper
(not sure if it is hidden behind a paywall if you click for the first time - at least you can see the preview picture)

It has a bed, electricity for heating, light and ventilation via solar panels or alternatively cord.

The outer hull is ultralight made from various materials like carbon fiber and isolation foams.

I have seen many variations of " housing for homeless" in Portland, Washington State, in Australia they are clever and provide privacy, somewhere safe and shelter from elements.
I have found in my town Bendigo Victoria, Australia, nobody wants them near their homes.Sometimes the behaviour if the homeless does not help their situation, but that is something
I have not had to endure.

“Not in my backyard!” is the phrase you always hear when someone is trying to help people in need and others want to ignore the problem because it makes them uncomfortable to see it. It’s sad. Especially because there are often times underlying reasons, even beyond the housing crisis, rapidly growing wealth-gap and shrinking middle class, such as mental health issues, domestic violence, addiction, etc that lead to homelessness and sometimes odd behavior. Adding the stigmatization that the NIMBY crowd perpetuates does nothing but derail solutions to help them and make them feel even worse about the situation they find out themselves in.
